One of the guys from a rival high school team, who also happens to be on my AAU team (and also happens to be really good) invited me to play in a weekend tournament at ETSU. Of course, I said yes… and wouldn’t you know it, they had a #21 jersey for me. The weird thing – it was a #21 team jersey from that rival school. Not just any rival school either, but the SAME school that beat us by one bucket in our bid for sectionals. I ended up seeing a bunch of people I know while wearing that jersey and it definitely got me some side-eyes. My mom laughed at me and took some pictures and promised she wouldn’t put them on social media so the world would see me in that rival jersey, especially not so soon after the upset.
But, turns out I had a REALLY strong weekend. AND we won the whole shebang, so I agreed to share the experience here. Mom still isn’t allowed to put the pictures on social media though.
I had a double-double every game. I averaged 18.
