One of the most beneficial experiences I had during off season was working with “the” Danny Martin, who is a shooting expert. He played for ETSU back in the day and, seriously, right this second, in his 70s, he will hit 99 out of 100 shots from basically anywhere on the court. He’s amazing. I saw improvement in my three-point percentage immediately, before we even left the gym that day. I admit I have struggled to break some of the habits I had developed along the way (Mr. Martin said it’s common to shoot a certain way as a little kid to compensate for strength, and then when the strength comes, changing the “little kid” form completely can be a challenge). Essentially, I was pulling my elbow too far inside the plane of my body without realizing it. I’m still working on that – I find myself struggling with that change more when I’m tired, but I’m getting there.

Incidentally, I learned that Mr. Martin is also some kind of champion corn-hole player. But, with shot percentages like his, I can’t say I’m surprised by that.
